Looking back on 2017, And forward to 2018…

As the 2017 season is now well and truly over, we’ve all had enough good food over the festive period, and it’s time to get back into the swing of things.

Team ASL-Bolton had a fantastic first year with many members achieving their goals and hitting personal bests. It was a particularly stand out year for team boss Graham Balshaw who, in only his second year of racing, achieved six wins and three podiums; as well as a forth place in the TLI National RR Champs. Of those the first highlight was winning the Horwich Festival of Racing on the 18th June in front of his home crowd. Followed by winning four of the LVRC Percy Stallard road races which also meant he won the series overall. He is looking forward to topping this season in 2018!

Another rider that performed well in the 2017 season is team captain David Stammers. A crash marred the start of the season but despite this David went on to win the North West Regional Championships 3/4 support race winning from a break of two. His other achievements include a hill climb win, two 10m time trial wins and 2 other podiums.

Our youngest rider Ben Dobson made great improvement during the season winning a local Criterium and several other good finishes including a brilliant sprint up the Rake at Ramsbottom in 2 min 46 sec to give him 8th place.

Going forward into the 2018 season we welcome three new members to the team: Andy Greenhalgh as our new time trial specialist, Mark Parsons who is new to racing but definitely one to watch, and finally Callum Belfield a criterium specialist, who, despite crashing multiple times last year achieved two criterium wins at the Lewis Balyckyi 3/4 crits.

We have much to learn as a team but can be proud what we achieved in our first year as a racing team. See you in 2018!
